Dear On His Wings Flight Academy,
I need to share my experience with you. After my instrument check ride with you guys I filed IFR and flew home from your academy to Alabama. I was able to log .9 of those hours as actual IFR. Two days after that I filed IFR going from Alabama to Wisconsin, and as soon as I got into Tennessee at 10,000 feet, I was in the soup, and never got out of it. I was coming up to Chicago, at which time my plane started a minor shake. I then called Chicago Center and asked for 8,000 feet, because I thought my injection system might be getting ice in it (causing the vibration). When I got down to 8,000 feet, the vibration had gotten worse, so I punched in nearest on my GPS and called Chicago Center. I told them that I needed to land, and they immediately cleared me for the GPS approach to that airport. I went down to the assigned altitude until established on the GPS approach and then followed the approach plate down to the decision altitude, which was 600 feet AGL. I broke out at 700 feet and with the airport right in front of me, and running on only 3 cylinders (I later found out) landed safely on the runway. I want to thank you for the excellent training which I'm sure saved my life.
