On January 1st, 2015, the cost of earning your instrument rating will increase by thousands of dollars and add additional days to your training. The FAA is reducing the hours that may logged towards your Instrument Rating while using a simulator. A simulator increases the efficiency of flight training multi-fold, improves retention, and reduces costs. Reducing the loggable time that may be logged will require that more, if not all training will have to be done in an airplane. Although this approach has its benefits, it will definitely increase the cost of flight training and add additional training days for most students. Don't delay. You may never have the opportunity to earn your Instrument Rating at a price this low again.
